DESIGN AND INTERVENTION. FLAGSHIP STORE MOLTENI & C. I DADA BARCELONA

September, 2020

We have been working with Molteni & C. I Dada for over 40 years, an Italian brand that was created over 80 years ago in Giussano. We know the product and the company’s philosophy inside out, something that led to Ferruz Studio receiving the order in September 2019 to remodel the premises that would house the new Molteni & C. I Dada Flagship Store in Barcelona.

The 400 m2 premises had a lot of possibilities and a great interior height. From the beginning, the architectural intervention followed the guidelines of art director Vincent Van Duysen. The façade, ceilings, and spaces were worked on to achieve the same common element and the interior height was moved to the exterior, adding spacious windows and visibility of the space together with the large front door, which is synonymous with Molteni flagships.

In order to create a warm environment, the new flagship is distributed across two floors connected by a main staircase that joins

the different levels, which was once again designed with the distinctive and sophisticated materials that are characteristic of the firm.

The minimalist metal steps guide the visitor to the upper floor, from which the height of the premises continues to be enhanced, whilst the lower floor is connected by steps made with ceramic flooring. The upper floor leads to a kitchen area showing the Prime model next to the D.859.1 table by Gio Ponti, a living room with the Graduate shelf, the Tavolino coffee table, the Diamond table by Patricia Urquiola, and the exclusive Checkers kitchen by Armani – Dada. Following the concept of enhancing height, transparent railings that look towards the shop windows were incorporated. The metal carpentry again follows a minimalist aesthetic marked by the flagships of this benchmark brand in the international furniture sector.

Natural colours like those of travertine marble alternate with various shades of dark grey, giving a strong character to each individual space.

Lighting plays a noteworthy role. Thanks to the technical lighting, the spaces become different scenes. To do this, some LED light rails were designed together with the firm Macrolux that help to enhance the product, highlight the materials and elegant designs, and showcase the products from the new collections. The new flagship is distributed across two floors connected by a main staircase designed with the distinctive and sophisticated materials that are characteristic of the firm.

One characteristic of the Molteni Flagships are the spaces that are designed with the minimum intervention of spatial distribution so that customers can see what a real space would look like in their own homes.

This space, focused on receiving sector professionals, also has a meeting and materials area closed off with glass panels and metal profiles with pure lines, in keeping with the rest of the space.

Once the architectural and interior intervention was complete, many of the firm’s products and design icons were selected.
